The unveiling ceremony for the Rudong LNG Delivery Hub and the launch ceremony of the LNG pre-sale trading platform of Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange (SHPGX) were held at Yangkou Port, Rudong, Nantong, on Dec 11.
Rudong boasts unique advantages in natural gas infrastructure and has been driving the high-quality development of the liquefied natural gas industry in recent years.
Yangkou Port, equipped with the nation's best deep-water channel for LNG ship docking, has received 734 LNG vessels and handled a total of 61.39 million tons of LNG, accounting for about 10 percent of the country's annual LNG imports. The launch of the Yangtze River Delta pre-sale trading platform will further regularize pre-sale transactions and pioneer new pricing and sales models for natural gas.
Chen Lei, the county mayor, highlighted the strong foundation of collaboration between the SHPGX, a national-level energy trading platform, and Rudong in areas such as LNG logistics, centralized trading, and price analysis.
He noted that the establishment of the LNG delivery hub and the launch of the trading platform align with the market-oriented reform of the LNG sector. The platform is expected to enhance LNG supply in the Yangtze River Delta and set a regional pricing benchmark, contributing to the stability and efficiency of China's energy industry.
Feng Shaohua, general manager of SHPGX, emphasized that the new platform and delivery hub will support the formation of market-driven natural gas prices and offer transparent, flexible trade channels for international suppliers entering China and Chinese businesses expanding globally.
