In a concerted effort to facilitate the high-quality development of Yangkou Port in Rudong, Nantong, Jiangsu province, local maritime, customs, and border inspection authorities have taken proactive measures to ensure its smooth operation.

The Rudong maritime administration has implemented intelligent supervision measures, aiming to minimize the impact of adverse weather conditions on the port's logistics and safeguard the safety and efficiency of industrial and logistics chains.

This year, due to the continuous typhoons, Tongkun Group's polyester project in the Yangkou Port had difficulties getting enough raw materials. The maritime authorities effectively harnessed intelligent monitoring tools to help the company unload raw materials during short good weather windows, ensuring a daily output of one billion yuan ($136.92 million).

According to Zuo Zenglai, the administration's director, since the inauguration of the Tongkun project one year ago, it has faced extreme weather conditions including over 30 cold waves and typhoons. However, due to their effective guidance, a total of 192 cargo vessels entered and left the port safely.

Yangkou Port, as a hotspot for investment, generated 60 percent of Rudong's foreign trade volume last year, despite occupying only one-tenth of Rudong's land area. Behind this achievement is also the unwavering commitment of the customs authorities.

Hou Jin, deputy director of Rudong Customs, said that Customs had actively participated in the construction plan for the Jiangsu LNG terminal at the port. They optimized checkpoints, sampling points and laboratories, and integrated information technologies such as video monitoring to achieve precise port supervision and a steady improvement in Customs clearance efficiency.

Xin Bentai, chief of the Rudong entry and exit border inspection station, said that as the Yangkou Port will soon again play a crucial role in the natural gas supply in the East China region during the winter season, the station is fully committed to ensuring port safety and efficient operation.

Over the past six years, the station has helped with the safe and efficient clearance of 998 LNG vessels and examined 34,742 people.
