Yangkou Port in Rudong county, Nantong has become one of the more than 250 first-class ports nationwide, partly thanks to the dedicated work of Tang Yi, the former director of Nantong's port administrative committee.

Nantong is situated both along the Yangtze River and near the Yellow Sea. By leveraging its geographical advantage, it can not only expand the horizons for Nantong's development but also promote the balanced development of different regions.

Yangkou Port, originally an energy port, is transforming into an industrial port. However, without opening up to the world, the vision of large-scale industries remained unfulfilled.

"We made relentless efforts in order to secure temporary opening-up approval for the Yangkou Port from more than 10 government departments, including the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Transport," said Tang. "This authorization opened up international logistics channels for Yangkou Port."

Finally, on Sept 27, 2005, Yangkou Port welcomed the arrival of the first 100,000-ton cargo ship from international waters, known as Norton, serving as a testament to the port's ability to construct a deep-water harbor.
