Urvantsev, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport vessel from Yamal in Russia, successfully docked at the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal at Yangkou Port in Rudong, Nantong, Jiangsu province on July 26.

The terminal has received a total of 3.5 million tons of LNG from the Arctic region since the first shipment arrived in July 2018.

The Yamal LNG project, which started operating at the end of 2017, marks the first major energy collaboration between China and Russia following China's introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013. Constructed by PetroChina and other partners, the project involves natural gas exploration, liquefaction, transportation, and sale.

"PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal is the company's first such terminal and one of the first large-scale LNG projects in China," said Miao Xiaochen, deputy general manager and safety director of PetroChina Jiangsu Liquefied Natural Gas Co Ltd.

Currently, the terminal boasts six LNG storage tanks and has been operating at full capacity in recent years. It can hold up to 670 million cubic meters of natural gas. The terminal has also played a vital role in supporting the industry's development by achieving several breakthroughs in maintenance of critical equipment and other technologies.

Over the past 12 years of operation, the LNG terminal has established communication channels with 25 countries and regions worldwide. It has received about 52 million tons of LNG and supplied over 72 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the Yangtze River Delta and neighboring regions. Around 70 percent of the LNG it received originated from countries along the Belt and Road, such as Russia and Qatar.
