Construction on a production base of the Far East Submarine Cable Co Ltd in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Rudong, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province is underway. The factory is expected to be fully operational by the first half of next year.

The 27-hectare factory will be capable of producing 8,000 kilometers of various types of submarine cables annually and is expected to generate sales revenue of 9 billion yuan ($1.28 billion). It will utilize world-class equipment and technology to help expand the capacity of wind turbines and aid the development of wind power in deep and open seas.

"Rudong is one of the first counties in China to develop the offshore wind power industry and is currently home to many companies involved in different sectors of the industry. Far East's new production base will benefit from Rudong's industrial chain and in return help strengthen the chain," according to Xu Tao, an executive from Far East Submarine Cable Co Ltd.

Far East Submarine Cable has established partnerships with foreign wind turbine manufacturers such as Vestas, GE, and Siemens Gamesa, as well as domestic manufacturers such as Goldwind, Envision Energy, Mingyang Electric, Shanghai Electric and Zhejiang Windey. The company's products are widely used at home and abroad.

For example, last year, its 36/66kV high-voltage torsion-resistant multi-core cables, the first in Asia, were supplied to China's largest offshore wind power project – the second phase of the 350-megawatt Shenquan offshore wind farm.
