The zone's planned area is 45 sq km. It mainly operates portside industrial projects, including Phase Ⅰ, Phase Ⅱ, Phase Ⅲ, and petrochemical industry reserve zones. The industrial area integrates heat supply, water supply, central water treatment, double-circuit power supply, a public pipe rack, natural gas pipes, road and other production infrastructure. The Phase Ⅰ Zone is 10 sq km, which has been completed, mainly developing middle and downstream industrial chains for petrochemical projects and chemical new materials, synthetic rubber, engineering plastics and high molecular materials. the Phase Ⅱ Zone is 10 sq km, is mainly developing equipment manufacturing, metallurgy and stone processing industries. The Phase Ⅲ Zone covers 15 sq km, and is mainly developing equipment manufacturing, new energy utilization and general aviation. The petrochemical industry reserve zone is on the western side of Phase Ⅰ Zone with a planned area of 10 sq km and is reserved for developing a large-scale petrochemical industry.
Major events:
On Nov 18, 2003, the opening ceremony of the Development and Construction of Yangkou Port was held in Nantong, marking the start of construction of the first phase of the Portside Industrial Zone.

In January 2014, the dike enclosure project of Phase III of the Portside Industrial Zone of Yangkou Port was completed, marking the development of a 35-sq-km dike enclosure of the Portside Industrial Zone.
On Sept 21, 2018, the Jiangsu Province People's Government approved the establishment of Jiangsu Rudong Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone as a provincial-level development zone.
