Beijing Botsing Technology, a national-level "little giant" enterprise, unveiled three intelligent crawling welding robots in Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area at an industry conference on shipbuilding and offshore engineering on Aug 31.

The robots are designed for use in shipbuilding, offshore engineering, oil and gas, chemicals, energy and power, rail transit and nuclear power, said Bian Chenggang, general manager of Jiangsu Botsing Intelligent Manufacturing Robot, a subsidiary of Beijing Botsing Technology.

The technology builds on more than 20 years of research by a Tsinghua University team led by Pan Jiluan. Botsing was founded in 2017 by his final doctoral student and started mass production at its Nantong base this year.

The trackless wall-climbing robot can take over high-risk welding tasks. "One robot can do the work of 10 senior welders, while ordinary welders can be trained as operators in a month," Bian said. In some projects, the first-pass welding qualification rate has exceeded 99 percent.

Botsing's Jiluan welding large model, China's first registered vertical large model for industrial welding, can shorten the welding process development cycle by 60 percent and reduce overall production costs by more than 40 percent.
