A delegation led by Wu Xinming, mayor of Nantong city – located in East China's Jiangsu province – on May 24 visited some of the key foreign-funded and foreign trade enterprises in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area, or NETDA.
The delegation visited PTM Engineering Plastics (Nantong) Co Ltd, Symrise Flavors & Fragrances (Nantong) Co Ltd and Nantong Yide Industry Co Ltd, among others.
During a subsequent meeting with NETDA officials, Wu listened to a report on the economic and social development of the area.
He said that since the start of the year the NETDA's key economic indicators had performed well and it had made progress in attracting fresh investment, constructing new projects and optimizing its business environment.
But the mayor cautioned that there was still room for improvement in terms of the scale of projects and the area's overall industrial level and innovation capacity.
He stressed that the area must shoulder its responsibilities as one of the main drivers of economic development, a major magnet to attract investment and as the main engine of scientific and technological innovation – in terms of the continued reform and opening-up of Nantong.
