At the first session of the 16th Nantong Municipal People's Congress – held on Feb 24 at the city in East China's Jiangsu province – a leading official of the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area, or NETDA gave some forthright and positive views about the area in an interview with the local media.
Zhang Jianhua, secretary of the Party working committee, pointed out that the NETDA must keep opening up its economy and expand its sci-tech innovation, in order to help boost the city's economic development.
He added that the NETDA was focusing on the revitalization of its leading industries, with the onset of new generations of information technology, high-end equipment, medicine and health and new energy.
The NETDA plans in the current year to nurture one enterprise with annual revenue topping 10 billion yuan ($1.58 billion) and four enterprises that each generates sales of 5 billion yuan. It will also promote the transformation of smart manufacturing, with the aim to add more than 60 intelligent technology transformation projects throughout the year.
Zhang also said that the NETDA was striving to make breakthroughs in attracting investment in the current year. Some 27 projects, with investment of over 1 billion yuan each, are expected to land in the NETDA in 2022.
In addition, the NETDA is expected to upgrade its area along the Yangtze River – to become the new channel for Nantong to further participate in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, Zhang added.
