NETDA's space restructuring yields tangible results
The Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area, or NETDA, located in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province, held a mobilization meeting for restructuring on Feb 24 last year. This meeting started a three-year battle for the best and most efficient use of space.
The meeting made a clear goal that within three years the area will restructure 466.67 hectares of industrial land and 133.33 ha of business land, relocate the enterprise within one kilometer of the Yangtze River development area, eliminate inefficient use of industrial land, and vacate enterprises with pollution and safety issues.
To date, 12 chemical plants have signed relocation agreements. With the withdrawal of chemical enterprises in succession, the development zone is accelerating the restructuring of its "ecological space" by building an ecological wetland landscape belt, an ecological park, and several sightseeing roads along the Yangtze River.
With inefficient enterprises vacating, their land is used in advanced projects and industries.
The Luolai smart industrial park project, with an investment of over 5 billion yuan ($790.09 million), will become an iconic industrial park in China's and even the global textile industry after it implements its digital innovation, according to Xue Weibin, founder and vice-chairman of Luolai Lifestyle Technology Co Ltd.
The project will cover 50 ha of land, all of which come from the NETDA's space restructuring.
The space restructuring also accelerated the transformation and upgrading of resident enterprises.
Polyplastics is the world's largest manufacturer of engineering plastics, a daughter company of Daicel that ranks among the world's top 50 chemical companies. Polyplastics has been operating in the NETDA for 15 years.
In response to the space restructuring, the company not only took the initiative to move, but also established a new company on Jan 11, which after completion will become the world's largest engineered plastics manufacturing base.
