Oct 14 marked China's Chongyang or Double Ninth Festival, which this year fell on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese lunar calendar and is traditionally a day for paying respects to the elderly.

While wishing all its senior residents a happy, healthy and long life, the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area or NETDA – located in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – launched the Nengda Month for the Elderly, with voluntary services to provide more people-oriented aid to local senior residents.

In recent years, the NETDA has continued to improve its model for eldercare, accelerated the development of its social services system and taken the lead in realizing full coverage of street day care centers for the elderly in the city.

Statistics show that currently there are 25 centenarians in the development zone, which has a registered population of only 165,000.
