NETDA outlines target for 50b yuan medical, health sector
Nantong city, located in East China's Jiangsu province, has reportedly decided to boost its health industry to prepare for accelerating demands on the public health system, according to local media reports on Aug 25.
In recently years the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area or NETDA, situated in Nantong, has reportedly given its full support to the development of the medical and health industry in the development zone. It has focused on strengthening and enlarging the health industry supply chain, while speeding up the introduction and development of leading enterprises.
To that end, the NETDA plans to foster two 100-billion-yuan ($15.48 billion) industrial clusters within five to eight years to promote the high-quality development of the entire manufacturing industry. It is understood that the health industry is a key industry in the plan.
Statistics showed that from January to July this year, 31 large-scale pharmaceutical and health enterprises in the NETDA achieved taxable sales of 10.61 billion yuan, up 9.3 percent year-on-year.
To date, 18 high-tech enterprises and more than 30 municipal R&D institutions have settled in the development zone, getting approval for more than 2,000 patents.
