In recent years, with the improvement of people's living standards, locals in the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area or the NETDA – located in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – are no longer content with just the basic necessities of food, clothing, housing and transport, but want to improve their lives in other ways.

With the arrival of the new leadership of the 12 communities of the Xiaohai sub-district in the NETDA, a total of 91 measures covering improvements to the quality of life there have been introduced by officials, according to local media reports.

Moves to resolve trash can storage problem

Where do you put the trash cans without adversely impacting on the lives of residents? According to a survey of locals, there are problems such as bad odors and pollution related to the placement of the rubbish bins.

The sub-district officials – in a bid to effectively handle the matter for residents – discussed the matter with municipal departments and decided to build a centralized location, which also won the support of locals.

Jinshan Party branch reinforces spirit of serving the people

The Jinshan community Party branch, with the approval of the Xiaohai sub-district, decided to further simplify the administrative processing services for residents and businesses. It issued policies related to subsidies for individual business start-ups and outsourced the work to the customer service department of Nantong Industrial Expo City Market Co.

The Xinzhu sub-district also issued well-considered admonitions to curb antisocial behavior through the distribution of pamphlets on the rules. It has also seen to it that facilities including benches in public areas are installed and grass has been restored.

All the efforts introduced by the Xiaohai sub-district are expected to ensure that the locals live and work there happily and that more businesses settle there.
