Tongzhou attracts major investments in emerging industries
Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province has been actively promoting the growth of emerging industries such as new solar technology and advanced energy storage, which has led to numerous major projects and companies being attracted to the region.
One of these projects is invested by Jiangsu Leascend Technology Co Ltd. With a total investment of 7 billion yuan ($964.45 million), Leascend's project is currently working at full capacity, aiming to achieve a production target of 12GW.
Jiangsu Leascend Technology is a high-tech company focused on developing and mass-producing advanced heterojunction solar cell technology. The company's project in the Nantong National High-tech Industrial Development Zone covers an area of 621 mu (41.4 hectares) and is planned to be completed in three phases, with production expected to start by the end of the year.
Wang Guangwei, the head of the company, highlighted that Tongzhou has streamlined procedures, accelerating the progress of the entire project. Once fully operational, the project's planned capacity of 12GW is estimated to generate a total output value of 11 billion yuan, providing employment for over 2,000 people. After reaching full capacity, the overall production capacity will increase to 20GW, positioning the company as a leading player in the industry.
As one of the first regions in Nantong to begin focusing on heterojunction technology, Tongzhou has attracted nearly 20 significant projects along the entire industrial chain, with a total investment exceeding 10 billion yuan. Particularly in the Nantong National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, key projects covering materials, equipment, and components have been developed and nurtured.
Furthermore, the Kanghui New Materials (Nantong) project, with a total investment of 12.5 billion yuan, is the second billion-yuan project invested by Hengli Group in Tongzhou. The first phase of the project is fully underway, and the production line for lithium battery separators has entered the trial production stage.
This year, Tongzhou is expected to commence construction on over 30 major projects, while also striving to ensure that ongoing and planned projects are completed and put into operation as soon as possible.
