The opening ceremony for the new $85 million Nantong plant for Swedish retailing giant IKEA took place on May 27.
IKEA Components (China) Co Ltd started construction of the plant – located in the Nantong National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – in September 2018.
The facility covers 6 hectares and is mainly involving in packaging furniture accessories. Equipped with a high-automation and high-efficiency operations system, the plant is expected to ramp up to a maximum production capacity of 300 million packages annually.
The Nantong plant is the first plant – as opposed to its retail outlets – built by IKEA since its entry into China. Moving forwards, it is expected to lay a solid foundation for IKEA's business development in the Asia-Pacific region.
