A ceremony marking the official opening of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway is live streamed by Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation. Come and join us!

The new Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway line will shorten the travel time between the two cities from 3.5 hours to around one hour.

Separated by the Yangtze River, people in the two cities previously had no direct train connection and needed to transfer in Nanjing.

The first phase of the project crosses the Yangtze River from Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province and enters Shanghai through Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Taicang in Jiangsu province.

A new bridge which links Zhangjiagang and Nantong, Jiangsu province, will be opened together with the rail line. The bridge features a six-lane expressway on its upper deck and four railway tracks on its lower deck.

Stretching a total of 143 kilometers, the new railway crosses the Yangtze River via this bridge. At maximum capacity, the new rail line will be able to run 44.5 pairs of passenger trains and six pairs of cargo trains.

Passengers can buy tickets for the new rail line at station counters or online starting from Tuesday 11 am.
