Chongchuan sees surge in new e-commerce ventures
In recent years, Chongchuan district, as the main urban area of Nantong, Jiangsu province, has seen the emergence of a wave of new e-commerce enterprises and traditional businesses transitioning into e-commerce, successfully blending digital and physical economies.
One notable example is the Taojin Group. By the end of 2023, the company had established its Nantong local products platform, which has brought together over 300 local specialty businesses from various counties and districts throughout Nantong.
These businesses specialize in seafood, snacks, and coarse grains and are promoted through channels such as official accounts, short videos, and live streaming to highlight Nantong's local products.
"To achieve new growth, physical enterprises need to innovate consumer experiences and expand sales channels," stated Wang Jinhe, chairman of the Taojin Group. He emphasized that new e-commerce platforms serve as essential sales channels, especially for newly innovated consumer experiences that necessitate personalized recommendation models based on big data analysis and artificial intelligence.
Thanks to e-commerce, several advantageous industrial enterprises in Chongchuan have gained momentum, particularly in industries such as home textiles, apparel, and sports goods, swiftly gaining international recognition.
In 2023, Chongchuan boasted over 120 export enterprises specializing in sports goods like Ironman and Modern, supporting nearly 500 upstream and downstream businesses. Additionally, over 1,500 export enterprises in the home textile category emerged, including key brands like Dasheng, Fumei, and Jinqiu, nurtured and developed as internationally renowned brands under Jiangsu.
In 2023, Chongchuan's online retail sales exceeded 26 billion yuan ($3.58 billion), accounting for over a quarter of the city's total retail sales.
