In response to the rapid growth in the ownership of new energy vehicles, Chongchuan district in Nantong, Jiangsu province has been proactive in advancing the installation of charging stations for NEVs.

In 2022, the district earmarked 270 charging station locations across 42 refurbished residential communities. This year, an additional 274 locations have been designated across 40 more upgraded residential communities.

To date, 89 charging stations have been installed and are operational in the refurbished old residential communities.

Waitan residential community in Rengang subdistrict is one such community, which comprises 56 buildings and houses 1,536 residents. Last year, as part of the refurbishment efforts in the western zone, eight charging stations were set up. By this summer, the stations were up and running. In addition, the residential community plans to add 16 more stations in the coming year.

In early November, the district unveiled its pilot plan for the construction of new energy vehicle charging infrastructure. The plan serves as a guide for the installation of charging facilities across seven specific venues, including refurbished residential areas.

One notable achievement under the plan is the microgrid charging station located at the Hushu agricultural wholesale market. The station recently became operational, becoming Chongchuan's first microgrid charging facility.

Thanks to its solar canopy, the station can generate its electricity. The site boasts 12 charging ports, evenly split between fast and slow charging, catering not only to logistics vehicles but also to private and ride-hailing cars in the vicinity.

Since the inception of the plan, local subdistricts have been proactive in promoting and guiding the installation of charging facilities. By 2025, Chongchuan aims to establish an integrated charging network to meet the burgeoning demand of its residents.
