Chongchuan district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, is making efforts to install charging piles for new energy vehicles in old residential communities in the district.

As of the end of May, the city's total number of NEVs had reached 92,000, accounting for 4.1 percent of the total vehicle numbers, according to official statistics from the department of transportation in Nantong.

One of the old residential communities to benefit is the Waibang residential community. During the renovation last year, the community reserved electrical conduit pipes for the installation of NEV charging piles. So far, the community has installed eight charging piles, which are already in operation.

Since the renovation of old residential communities, Chongchuan has installed a total of 45 charging piles in 11 communities. More than 10 other communities are also preparing to install charging piles.

According to local authorities, Chongchuan plans to install 267 charging piles in 30 communities by the end of this year.
