10 new scenes of Chongchuan
Chongchuan district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, held a conference for the high-quality development of the culture industry on June 12, with 10 new scenes of Chongchuan launched.
Langshan National Forest Park
This forest park boasts an impressive forest coverage rate of over 80 percent and is home to over 300 plant species. It has become a crucial urban ecological hub within the central urban area of Nantong.
Haohe River scenic area
The Haohe River stretches for 10 kilometers and was originally designed as a moat encircling the city.
The river is the most well-preserved ancient moat in the country and has been designated a national 5A-level tourist attraction.
Nantong Museum
The Nantong Museum was founded in 1905 by Zhang Jian (1853-1926), a renowned industrial magnate, educator, and scholar in Nantong. It combines elements of traditional Chinese gardens and modern museums.
Tangzha Ancient Town
Tangzha Ancient Town is the birthplace of modern national industries in Nantong, and it still preserves a large number of relics from modern national industries.
Academician Wu Liangyong referred to Tangzha as the "first town of modern industrial heritage in China".
Qiaolou Tower
Qiaolou Tower was initially built in 1349 to serve as a watchtower. In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it became one of Nantong's eight scenic spots.
In 1914, Zhang Jian purchased a large bell from Shanghai for 5,000 yuan ($699) and invited the Nantong-born architect Sun Zhixia to design a clock tower in front of the Qiaolou Tower, which has a style greatly influenced by Western art.
Nantong Forest Safari Park
The Nantong Forest Safari Park is currently home to nearly 20,000 animals, including over 300 representative and rare animal species from around the world.
Wenfeng Park
Wenfeng Park, historically known as "Wufu Temple", features a group of Ming and Qing dynasties buildings standing beside the Wenfeng Tower, which stands 39 meters tall.
The park is currently the site of the Nantong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Nantong Painting and Calligraphy Academy, and Geyi Art Museum.
Sijie Block
The old residential houses and former residences of notable figures from the Ming Dynasty are still preserved on Sijie Block, which reflects scenes from Nantong's past.
Several notable schools were established in the area, inclduing the Ziwei Academy, which was the first academy in Nantong during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
Additionally, it was home to the first undergraduate women's normal school in modern China.
Tonglv Canal
The Tonglv Canal, formerly known as the Yunyan River, was excavated in 1265 and is a well-known navigable canal in Jiangsu province.
Since 2018, the Tonglv Canal corridor has been developed into Nantong's second ecological zone. It now has beautiful scenery on both banks.
Seyuan Garden
Seyuan Garden, built in 1924 with an area of 9.8 hectares, is the resting place of Zhang Jian.
The garden is filled with over 10,000 trees, including over 200 rare species. It is the largest botanical garden in Nantong and is known as the "urban oxygen oasis".
