Nantong Xingdong International Airport realizes full 5G coverage
Nantong Xingdong International Airport in Tongzhou district, Nantong, Jiangsu province achieved full 5G coverage on April 21, making it the first international airport in the province to do so.
The airport is a major transportation hub of Nantong. Its terminal building covers an area of 520,000 square meters and the passenger throughput can reach nearly 3 million. The new 5G network offers the airport a high-speed, low-latency, and wide connection.
"It takes only 20 seconds to download a 2GB movie with the 5G network and it's easier to watch movies and TV series during the flight," said one passenger at the airport terminal.
The 5G network covers not only the airport terminal, but also the parking area. People can enjoy high-speed network services both indoors and outdoors.
Feng Xiaogang, a network technologist at the Nantong branch of China Mobile, said that construction was carried out during a period of low traffic to reduce its effect on the airport's normal operations.
A new-type distribution model was adopted in the construction of the 5G network, allowing for higher speeds and a larger capacity. It can reach speeds of up to 1 Gbps – three or four times the normal speed.
In the future, the Nantong Xingdong International Airport plans to cooperate with the Nantong branch of China Mobile to promote the development of 5G networks at airports, providing passengers with smarter and more convenient services.
