A New Zealand agricultural delegation visited Caobu town in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province on Sept 18 to explore the forms of modern agriculture and rural tourism being practiced there.

The tour began at a provincial modern agriculture demonstration park, where the attendees viewed smart farming displays and specialty produce. They then visited an orchid greenhouse, seeing more than 60 varieties grown under intelligent temperature and water-fertilizer management and sold online and nationwide.

Later, at a rose farm, the delegation picked fresh flowers and learned about farm-to-consumer sales. In a renovated rural courtyard, they tasted "village coffee" made with local Sunshine Rose grapes and discussed how idle farmhouses can be revitalized.

The delegation also exchanged views with local officials on agricultural innovation, specialty breeding and rural business development. Jin Tong, head of the town, said it would strengthen its industries involving fruit, flowers, and leisure, and deepen agri-tourism integration. He presented the delegation with Tasting Caobu, a book promoting local culture.
