A new exhibition featuring the work of renowned Chinese artist Fan Yang opened at the Nantong Art Museum on Sept 13.

The exhibition showcases more than 60 recent pieces, including a series of 50 paintings inspired by the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Fan, a native of Nantong, is known for his mastery of traditional Chinese ink-and-wash techniques. He created the World Cup series by capturing dynamic moments on the pitch alongside quieter human scenes from around the tournament. The works stand out for their application of classical brushwork to the high-energy world of international football, a crossover that organizers said pushes the boundaries of traditional ink painting. Landscape sketches and other recent works are also on display.

Fan thanked the city government for its support in establishing the Fan Yang Art Museum, describing it as a base for artists who have left Nantong to reconnect with their hometown and a platform for cultural exchange. He said he plans to mount exhibitions on different themes there in the future.

The exhibition will run through Nov 15. Admission is free.
