China's domestically developed new-generation deep-water multifunctional offshore engineering vessel, Hai Yang Shi You 292, was delivered in Qidong, a county-level city of Nantong, Jiangsu province, on Aug 21.

The vessel measures 126 meters in length and 28 m in width, with a displacement of more than 17,600 metric tons. Its deck area is equivalent to nearly five standard basketball courts, and can accommodate up to 100 people.

Equipped with a 400-ton full-slewing crane, a 50-ton knuckle-boom crane and a DP2 dynamic positioning system, the vessel will also feature a 3,000-ton cable reel, remotely operated vehicles, a subsea trencher and other advanced equipment. It can carry out deep-water operations such as construction, maintenance, inspection and emergency response.

The ship features digital and smart systems that monitor and coordinate key equipment in real time, enabling periodic unmanned operation. In line with the green and low-carbon principles, it is equipped with an intelligent power station and a bidirectional heat-exchange heating system to optimize power distribution. It also adopts a fully domestically developed electric propulsion system.

Together, these technologies guarantee operations that are environmentally sound, safe, stable and highly efficient, even in challenging sea conditions.

Haiyang Shiyou 292 demonstrates China's growing strength in high-end offshore engineering and will provide critical equipment support for the country as it works to become a maritime power.
