Fuhaicha, a century-old residence of Zhangjian (1853-1926) in Haimen district, Nantong, has drawn public attention since it appeared in China Central Television's hit drama Jianghai Chaosheng, or Zhang Jian — The Legendary Entrepreneur.

Zhang Jian is a renowned patriot, industrial magnate, educator and philanthropist from Nantong. The site is located in the Yisheng Cultural Park, a cultural and tourist complex centered on his brewing enterprise, Yisheng Brewery.

Fuhaicha was first built in 1903 and consists of a two-story building, Duntang Hall, and Zunsu Hall. It takes its name from an ancient coastal island called Fuhai Sandbar in Nantong.

In 2025, a complete restoration and structural reinforcement project was carried out on the main building of Fuhaicha, and the renovation work has reached its final stage of completion.

The only original structure is a two-story building with seven rooms on each floor, featuring architectural details from the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the early Republic of China (1912-49).

The building began as Zhang's home, but he repurposed it as a dormitory for a girls' school he had founded due to the housing shortage at the time.

As times changed, Fuhaicha underwent multiple repairs and was even used as a factory building by the Yisheng Brewery, bearing witness to his early work in education and industry.
