Qidong-built Asia's largest dredging ship begins operations
Built by Zhenhua Heavy Industries Qidong Marine Engineering Co, "Jun Guang", the largest dredging vessel in Asia and the second largest in the world, started operating at Guangzhou Port on May 15.
The ship marks a shift toward larger, more automated, and lower-emission dredging vessels in China.
"Jun Guang" is 198 meters long and 38.5 m wide, with a hull depth of 18 m. It can dig as deep as 120 m below the surface, hold up to 38,528 cubic meters of material, and has a total deadweight of 60,483 metric tons.
The vessel is equipped with a world-leading dual-jet system that improves efficiency by more than 20 percent. Thanks to a domestically developed "one-key dredging" system, the entire dredging process is fully automated.
In addition, the ship is certified for unrestricted global navigation and can operate in winds as strong as force 8 on the Beaufort scale. Under normal conditions, it can fill its entire hold in just 90 minutes — among the highest loading efficiencies in the world.
This powerful vessel can be used for port and waterway construction, land reclamation, deep-sea sand collection, underwater mining, and pipeline laying. It is an example of advanced, energy-efficient marine engineering.
