Major commercial complexes in Hai'an, a county-level city of Nantong, recorded a year-on-year sales revenue growth of 7.6 percent during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5.

Sales revenue from four key shopping malls — Xirun City, Wanda Plaza, Wenfeng Great World and Xinghu 001 Plaza — totaled 38.59 million yuan ($5.68 million), reflecting a 9.25 percent increase from last year. The malls attracted about 666,000 visitors, a rise of 15.99 percent compared to the previous year.

Over the holiday, Hai'an distributed consumption coupons worth 600,000 yuan. These coupons were applicable to retail, accommodations, dining, and shopping. The city partnered with shopping malls, 4S shops and appliance stores to introduce a wealth of promotional activities featuring discounts.

Wenfeng Great World and Xinghu 001, for example, launched promotions that boosted sales in general merchandise, apparel, beauty products and digital devices.

Xirun City hosted an auto show with over 50 vehicles from 10 brands, attended by 15,000 visitors. On-site deals were made for 98 vehicles, totaling approximately 12 million yuan.

Citywide, participants in the home appliance trade-in program sold 1,890 units, resulting in an increase in consumption by 7.38 million yuan and the disbursement of 1.01 million yuan in subsidies.

Catering businesses introduced specialty products, including fresh spring-limited samplers, family-friendly combo meals and camping meal packages. Exclusive discounts offered in coordination with accommodations and restaurants in commercial districts boomed, leading to a sharp rise in turnover compared to regular days.
