Hai'an is a land of vigorous modern industries. It has forged four dominant industries, namely trendy chinlon, other modern textiles, new materials and equipment manufacturing and built the four emerging industries of robots, environmental protection, new energy and new energy vehicles (accessories), and aeronautical, space and smart equipment. The overall design is "4+4+N": four emerging industries, four pillar industries, and new programs in biomedicine and agricultural by-products.

Hai'an's modern service industry is developing rapidly, and a comprehensive logistics system has been set up integrating highways, railways and fairways. The city has been listed as a national demonstration area of modern agriculture. Its construction industry is also surging, and it has won 35 Luban Prizes for its construction projects.
