Deputies to the National People's Congress from Nantong, Jiangsu province, convened in Nanjing, the provincial capital, on March 2 before making their way to Beijing to participate in the national two sessions alongside other NPC deputies from Jiangsu.
The two sessions are the annual meetings of China's leading legislative and political advisory bodies, scheduled to open on March 5 and 4, respectively.
As they prepared to depart, the deputies emphasized that this year marks the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), and they are committed to actively engaging with the conference's various agendas, offering insightful suggestions, proposing pragmatic strategies, and seeking innovative initiatives.
To fulfill their duties, the Nantong NPC deputies have conducted thorough inspections and research prior to the meeting, gathering public sentiment, listening to public opinion, and collecting creative ideas in areas such as technology, environment, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
"My suggestions this time continue to focus on the agricultural sector," said Sun Chunmei, one of the NPC deputies from Nantong. "This includes promoting the development of rural collective housing and addressing the absence of the agricultural category in the current China Quality Award evaluation system, which requires our ongoing attention."
The China Quality Award is considered the highest honor in the field of quality management in the country. Sun also mentioned her plans to offer suggestions on the protection and use of agricultural germplasm, seedlings, and seed resources.
