Rugao Puppet Theatre delights audiences in Chicago

Rugao Puppet Theatre introduced the allure of traditional Chinese puppetry to Chicago on Jan 30 and 31, captivating local audiences with a series of lively and engaging performances.

On Jan 30, the troupe staged a special show at the renowned Field Museum, attracting many visitors who paused to watch and applaud.

The following day, Rugao Puppet Art Troupe performed in Bridgeport, located in Chicago's South Chinatown. The event was co-hosted by the Heritage Museum Asian Art and Asian American Culture Center, along with the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago.

Eleven programs showcased the rich diversity of the art form. Performances included graceful puppet dances, storytelling inspired by Journey to the West, Sichuan Opera-style face-changing, and interactive games. The audience, of all ages, responded with laughter and applause, appreciating the humor, skill, and creativity shared.

The event also featured tourism information about Rugao, along with souvenirs and eco-friendly tote bags for the audience as mementos of the experience.

Rugao Puppet Theatre's appearance on the Chicago stage was more than an artistic showcase. It served as a vivid example of cultural exchange through the universal appeal of storytelling and performance.
