Zhang Jian's mission of "saving the nation through industry" started with the Dasheng Cotton Mill. He committed himself entirely to choosing the site, building factories, raising funds, and developing production. In the early 1900s, he gradually built an enterprise group centered on the Dasheng Cotton Mill, marking the beginning of Nantong's early modernization.
