Chongchuan TCM night market kicks off
A traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) night market kicked off at Nantong Hanyao TCM Hospital in Chongchuan district on the evening of June 21, immersing local residents in a dynamic showcase of traditional culture.
The opening ceremony featured an innovative fusion performance where the martial precision and fluid grace of Baduanjin (a set of traditional exercises) blended with modern saxophone melodies, illustrating the harmonious coexistence of tradition and contemporary artistry.
In the TCM health service zone, long queues formed as people waited for expert consultations and experiential areas offering specialized therapies. The TCM culture zone was filled with the aroma of chenpi (dried tangerine peel) and wumei (smoked plum) beverages, where residents crafted personalized sachets or learned to identify authentic medicinal herbs.
The exhibition area for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items, featuring Nantong paper-cutting and Jinghai dough figurines, drew large crowds. ICH practitioners invited visitors to engage in hands-on interactive experiences.
This initiative successfully transformed ICH practices into lively community interactions, reigniting their enduring vitality through public engagement.
The night market will run every Saturday from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm until August 30 at Nantong Hanyao TCM Hospital. With rotating ICH exhibits scheduled throughout the event period, additional representative projects will be introduced to enrich the cultural offerings.
