Qidong port achieves significant growth with expanded international access
Since its national certification in 2015, Qidong Port has seen a steady increase in open-access enterprises and port activities. Currently, 15 berths operated by seven companies have been approved for international access by the provincial government.
Qidong Port specializes in liquefied natural gas, coal, and equipment imports, as well as offshore vessels and container exports. From January to October, the port handled 533 international vessel arrivals and departures, a 52.72 percent year-on-year increase, with a foreign trade throughput of approximately 3.05 million metric tons, up 13.64 percent from last year.
In recent years, Qidong's port authority has actively supported enterprises in opening terminals to international operations. To address capacity expansion and industrial upgrades for Guanghui Energy and Dongfang International Container Qidong, the port successfully applied to expand its open waters and coastline, receiving State Council approval on Nov 2023.
The port has also improved its business environment by streamlining procedures, reducing clearance times and costs, and supporting major projects. For example, the China Grain Reserves Lusi Port Storage Project, with a total investment of 2 billion yuan, will develop a facility in five phases, set for completion by 2026. Once operational, it is expected to generate annual output of 4 billion yuan ($552.7 million). Additionally, the Yihai Kerry Arawana Qidong Food Industry Park, a 10 billion yuan project, is progressing steadily.
When both projects are operational, the Lyusi Port is projected to handle 3.4 million tons of inbound grain annually. Relevant departments have already secured customs administration approval for the construction of designated grain inspection facilities, ensuring seamless operations and long-term growth.
