Rudong's rural vitalization efforts show impressive progress

On Sept 21, Rudong county, Nantong showcased its rural vitalization achievements at a work promotion meeting. The county has implemented 97 agricultural projects, each worth over 10 million yuan ($1.42 million). It has built 79,620 hectares of high-standard farmland and added three new national model farmers' cooperatives.
In recent years, the county has focused on raising agricultural efficiency, enhancing rural livability, and increasing farmers' prosperity. These efforts have significantly advanced rural vitalization in the area.
At the Haitangchun Guozhiyuan Farm in the Rudong National Rural Industry Integration Development Demonstration Park, workers have been busy harvesting grapes. The farm's head, Cui Haiyan, said, "The Haitangchun Grape Industry Alliance has been operating in the park sine 2019, utilizing its extensive sales network to integrate grape production and sales, streamlining the entire process, from cultivation to distribution." In 2023, the alliance achieved nearly 3 billion yuan in sales.
Improving rural living environments is also key to Rudong's vitalization efforts. The county has implemented housing improvements, infrastructure development, and environmental enhancements. The county leads the province in rural toilet renovations, and 88 percent of rural sewage there is now treated. The county has also seen the emergence of 23 new provincial model livable villages, five provincial-level characteristic villages, and three traditional villages.
In Gangnan village, a "points supermarket" motivates residents to participate in volunteer work and follow village regulations. Villagers can exchange points for daily necessities such as detergent, kettles, and toilet paper.
Since 2015, Gangnan village has promoted rural vitalization by encouraging civil behavior through a points system, advancing the village's development and fostering a civilized community.
