Nantong unveils most representative feasts, dishes

Nantong in Jiangsu province recently selected its most representative 12 feasts and 24 dishes at the 2024 "Jiangsu Taste Nantong Cuisine" Special Banquets and Dishes Selection event.

The event drew the participation of numerous catering practitioners and local residents, who praised the feasts and dishes for their healthiness, nutrition, and cultural connotation.

The 12 feasts include Zhang Jian Family Feast, Dong Xiaowan-themed Feast, Hai'an Globefish Feast, Haimen Mutton Feast, Lyusi Seafood Feast, and Jianghai Mushroom Feast.

Among them, the Zhang Jian Family Feast is prepared based on the life and stories of Zhang Jian (1853-1926), a renowned industrial magnate, educator, and scholar in Nantong; the Dong Xiaowan-themed Feast is inspired by Dong Xiaowan, the most famous courtesan in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The 24 dishes feature an array of delicacies such as sizzling clam, Haimen braised goat meat in brown sauce, stewed Langshan chicken with Ganoderma lucidum, longsnout catfish meatballs, Lyusi hairtail in oil, jellyfish head soup, Xiting crisp biscuit, and Cao Xie Di (sesame seed pancake).

The event received guidance from the Jiangsu Catering Industry Association, Nantong municipal bureau of culture, broadcasting, television, and tourism, and Nantong municipal bureau of commerce.
