Eighteen students and teachers from the University Malaysia Sabah and international students from the Nantong College of Science and Technology visited Linggong School, a drama school in Nantong, on Sept 6 to experience the charm of Peking Opera.

The students learned about the origin, development, genres, characters, costumes, and props of the traditional Chinese opera from the school's staff members.

Everyone had the chance to witness the complete process of Peking Opera makeup up close, witnessing firsthand the distinctive art form. This allowed them to delve into the deep cultural essence and exceptional artistry of Peking Opera.

In the interactive segment, many students were enthusiastic about trying the movements and singing tunes of Peking Opera under the guidance of Wei Hongyu, a descendant of the Mei School of Peking Opera. Despite being somewhat novices, their genuine passion and reverence for traditional culture shone through in every action.

Participants of the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges, these students are expected to get a further understanding of both Nantong and China through traditional culture such as blue calico cloth, calligraphy, and Peking Opera during their 10-day journey in the Chinese city.
