The Yangtze finless porpoise mascot of the Suzhou-Wuxi-Nantong Science and Technology Park, or Suxitong Industrial Park, in Nantong, drew close attention at the second China Intangible Cultural Heritage Preservation Annual Conference, which was held in Yixing from July 20 to 22.
The mascot, named "Lanruoruo", is a symbol of respect and preservation of nature and cultural heritage. Protection of the Yangtze River and Yangtze finless porpoises is important not only in the context of caring for nature, but also in adherence to cultural inheritance.
Nantong was born from the Yangtze River and prospers still today because of it. The Yangtze River has become the city's most representative cultural symbol, and Nantong long has exerted efforts to protect the river.
Focusing on Lanruoruo, the Suxitong Industrial Park has arranged a Yangtze finless porpoise-themed tour for journalists as well as an event highlighting the protection of the Yangtze River, which together have raised awareness among the public.
The second annual ICH conference gathered over 100 cultural heritage items from around the country and provided visitors with an immersive experience by creatively presenting exhibits in stores, stalls, on the street, and over water.
