The new free trade agreement between Ecuador and China took effect on May 1, as Nantong Customs issued its first certificate of origin for export to the country.

Best Nori, receiver of the C/O, is expected to export roasted seaweed worth approximately 451,000 yuan ($62,000) to Ecuador, enjoying a tariff reduction of about 13,000 yuan.

"Exporting roasted seaweed to Ecuador is our company's main business," said Yuan Yuan, manager of Best Nori's foreign trade business department. "Our products will be more competitively priced thanks to the gradually reduced tariff."

Once the FTA comes into effect, as much as 90 percent of the goods traded between China and Ecuador will be exempted from tariffs, while 60 percent of them will immediately enjoy zero tariffs, data from China's Ministry of Commerce showed.
