Chongchuan magnet for doctoral talents
Chongchuan district in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has been actively enhancing efforts to attract high-profile talent, particularly those with doctoral and post-doctoral degrees, in order to drive high-quality development.
So far this year, the district has recruited five postdoctoral researchers, with an additional three currently engaged in negotiations. The cumulative number of stationed PhD researchers has reached 32.
Two notable examples include Zi Yuan, a graduate of Jena University in Germany, specializing in chemical synthesis research, and Yang Yongfei, who graduated from Jiangsu University and studied abroad at Magdeburg University in Germany. At present, both of them are engaged in postdoctoral work at the technical center of Nantong Cellulose Fibers Co Ltd.
They said that Chongchuan boasts an outstanding environment for scientific and technological innovation, coupled with vast development opportunities, which is what drew them to the district.
The increasing number of doctoral talent at enterprises can be attributed to the favorable policies implemented in Chongchuan. This year, municipal talent policies have been instrumental in this regard. For each recruited postdoctoral researcher, enterprises can receive a one-time research fund subsidy of 200,000 yuan ($27,876).
Currently, Chongchuan leads the city in both the number of established postdoctoral stations and talents recruited. Their expertise spans various fields, including shipbuilding and marine engineering, electronic information, intelligent manufacturing, new energy, and new materials.
