Qidong, a county-level city of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province, had a PM2.5 concentration of 21 micrograms per cubic meter, the lowest in the province, in October, according to the Department of Ecology and Environment of Jiangsu province.
As of Nov 29, the city's annual average PM2.5 concentration was 22.5 mg per cu m, the lowest in the province for the fourth year in a row. The ratio of days with good air quality was 87.1 percent, ranking second in the province.
The ozone concentration growth in the city has also been curbed.
The city has been focusing on improving the atmospheric environment quality this year, striving to reduce ozone pollution, decrease PM2.5 concentration and promote the comprehensive management of volatile organic compounds.
A total of 367 comprehensive management projects for ozone pollution treatment were completed this year. As of Nov 24, 638 vehicles under national III emission standards have been eliminated.
In addition, the city has enhanced its environmental monitoring network. This year, the city built a new laser radar and 38 micro-stations in the urban area to get scientific and technological support for the prevention and control of atmospheric pollution, and implemented an air quality precision control service and pollutant source analysis project.
