Nantong students impressed with paper cutting

The students' exclamations came from the open class room at the Third Affiliated Primary School of Nantong Normal School on Nov 27 as a traditional craft was presented in their school.

Li Haifeng, an inheritor of Nantong paper cutting, was invited to give a lecture at the primary school. Li introduced the history and categories of traditional paper cutting art in China and then demonstrated the sophisticated craft.

Guided by the craftsman, students also tried their hands at cutting paper-cuts for window decoration.

"The event not only can train students' operational ability, but also help them learn about their hometown's culture and increase their cultural identity," noted Chen Xiaofan, deputy director of the school's moral education department.

Organized by the Nantong Daily Media Group and the Nantong Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, the event will invite local craftsmen to give classes at different schools to improve local students' confidence in their hometown's culture.
