The world's first floating wind and solar-powered fish farming platform reached a major milestone with the completion of its core infrastructure at the Nanri Island offshore wind farm in Fujian province. Jiangsu Longyuan Zhenhua Marine Engineering Co Ltd in Chongchuan district, Nantong, Jiangsu province was responsible for the planning, manufacturing, and construction of the project.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for the company, as it fills a global void in floating offshore wind energy infrastructure.

The platform comprises floating wind turbines and aquaculture net cages. Since the project's inception, Longyuan Zhenhua has led the way in establishing a research and development team dedicated to the design of floating foundations. This effort resulted in the development of a construction approach tailored to China's maritime environment.

In addition, the project tackled the technological challenges of integrating offshore wind energy and deep-sea fish farming, leading to the creation of China's first internal and external network tensioning system, automated feeding system, and unmanned deep-sea fish farming system.

Upon completion of the platform's core construction, it will enter a phase of joint testing, with the aim of achieving grid connection and power generation by the end of this year.

Once operational, the wind turbines will run at full capacity 24 hours a day, producing 96,000 kWh of electricity daily, equivalent to the daily power consumption of 42,500 people. The innovative fusion of solar and wind power with fish farming is expected to reduce approximately carbon dioxide emission by about 8,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide emission by about 40 tons of sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide emissions by about 24 tons annually, providing substantial environmental and economic benefits.
