Tongzhou weightlifting athlete sets new Asian Para Games record
Gu Xiaofei from Tongzhou district, Nantong, Jiangsu province achieved a remarkable feat by lifting 238 kilograms in the men's 80-kilogram weightlifting final at the fourth Asian Para Games in Hangzhou on Oct 25, setting a new record for the event and securing the gold medal.
This victory also solidified Gu's position as the first Nantong athlete to clinch four consecutive gold medals at the Asian Para Games.
At 34 years of age, Gu is currently a member of both the Chinese and Jiangsu provincial para weightlifting teams. Over the years, he has accumulated an impressive collection of 27 gold medals and five silver medals in international and national competitions.
In June 2018, Gu received the title of International Elite Para Athlete, the highest accolade for technical proficiency awarded to Chinese para athletes.
