The project of developing and industrializing a large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier in Haimen district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, was listed as a major technological industrialization project, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology announced on Sept 6.

This shows that Haimen's high-tech ship and marine engineering industry is making great strides.

The project is being carried out by the Jiangsu Ship and Marine Engineering Equipment Technology Innovation Center, which is one of the outstanding scientific and technological innovation carriers and platforms the district has built over the past few years.

In the first three quarters of this year, Haimen attracted 166 high-tech innovation projects, over 90 percent of which are gathered on these carriers and platforms.

Huang Wei, director of the Haimen science and technology bureau, noted that the carriers and platforms serve as an important support for the construction of "Innovative Haimen", with multiple functions such as converging innovation resources, promoting enterprise innovation, accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and promoting industrial upgrading.

The platforms act as accelerators to drive the transformation and upgrading of industries and the high-quality development of the district's economy.
