Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, saw a bumper summer grain harvest with a combined output of 77,900 metric tons, an increase of 1.86 percent over that of last year.
This is largely due to the district's continuous efforts over the past few years to build high-standard farmland. As of the end of 2022, Haimen had built 562,000 mu of such arable fields, accounting for 81.83 percent of the district's total.
Authorities have also established a technical service team to help farmers plant high-yield wheat varieties and offer guidance in spreading manure and preventing and controlling scabs.
In addition, the local government rolled out stimulus policies to encourage planters to adopt new varieties and technologies and improve field management.
