Nine enterprises in Haimen district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, have been listed as national little giants, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced on July 14.

This was largely due to the implementation of a series of measures rolled out by authorities to advance the high-quality development of the city's small and medium-sized enterprises.

Authorities have been channeling more resources into attracting projects related to emerging industries such as new energy, new-generation information technology, life health, intelligent manufacturing, and new materials.

The local government has also established sound mechanisms for nurturing little giants, including rolling out policies to help enterprises undergo industrial transformation and upgrading, encouraging enterprises to focus on industry segments, and providing support to enterprises that have established technology centers and research institutes.

"Little giants" refer to SMEs that specialize in niche sectors, command a high market share, and boast strong innovative capacity and core technologies.

Haimen is currently home to 15 such enterprises.
