Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has in recent years been leveraging idle and abandoned land in its urban areas to create more public green spaces.

Haimen built 15 pocket parks in 2022 and will invest 10 million yuan ($1.38 million) to renovate four small gardens in 2023. The district currently has 6.08 million square meters of public green space, with the per capita green space being 15.01 square meters.

A staff member of the Haimen housing and urban-rural development bureau said that more recreational amenities, sporting facilities, and barrier-free facilities will be equipped while renovating the gardens.

The staff member added that authorities are trying their best to build more pocket parks in order to strengthen residents' sense of happiness and fulfillment.
