The OOCL Turkiye, a container ship built by Nantong Cosco KHI Engineering Co Ltd (NACKS), successfully completed its trial voyage on June 15.

As the world's largest new-generation container ship as well as the world's largest container ship capable of navigating the Yangtze River, OOCL Turkiye measures 399.99 meters in length, 61.3 meters in molded breadth, and 33.2 meters in depth.

In addition, the ship has a maximum carrying capacity of 24,188 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), equivalent to the height of 22 typical residential buildings when fully loaded.

According to NACKS, OOCL Turkiye is the second vessel among a series of six ships of the same type that were independently developed, designed, and constructed by the company.

In recent years, the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry in Nantong has been experiencing sustained high-quality growth.

According to the Nantong maritime safety administration, there have been 74 foreign trade orders for new ships or marine products delivered or soon to be delivered in 2023, an increase of 17.5 percent compared to the previous year.

The series of container ships, which can accommodate a total of 24,188 TEUs, cater to the development trend of the global shipping industry and embodies the advancements in shipbuilding design and construction capabilities.

To date, a total of 15 domestically-made vessels with a carrying capacity of 24,000 TEUs, including OOCL Turkiye, have been completed.
