Haiyong's green path to rural vitalization

Haiyong town in Haimen district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has in recent years been improving its ecological environment as part of its rural vitalization drive.
For example, the town invested 7 million yuan ($983,056.21) in 2022 to restore the ecosystems along its 5.71-kilometer riverbank by greening the road and setting up paths for walking, cycling and driving.
The town also spent 3 million yuan to treat Shanan village's riverways and improve its living environment.
Ding Jiangbo, who runs an agritainment in the village, said that the village's geographical location and ecological resources are conducive to developing tourism and homestay industries.
He added that the village, located on Chongming Island, connects Shanghai and Haimen and is a great place for Shanghainese looking for a nearby outing on weekends.
Zhao Yongwei, Party secretary of the town, said that in line with the goal of transforming Chongming Island into a world-class ecological island, Haiyong has drawn up a sound plan to advance its green development.
The town has attracted an agricultural, cultural and tourism project revolving around daylilies, which is expected to bolster the tourism industry and increase incomes for locals, said Yu Xiaojian, head of the town.
