Wu Xinming, Party secretary of Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, recently met with Luciano Tanto Clement, consul general of Argentina in Shanghai.

He noted that with the launch of national strategies, including the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and Yangtze River Delta integration, Nantong's advantages in location, transportation and resources have become more prominent.

Nantong is one of the first 14 coastal Chinese cities to open up to the outside world and it has maintained close economic and people-to-people exchanges with Argentina, according to Wu.

He added that Argentina boasts abundant resources and many harbors, making it an important logistics hub in South America, while Nantong is stepping up efforts to build the new Tongzhou Bay Port Area.

Wu expressed hope that both sides will further cooperation in port logistics and trade to bring more of Argentina's high-quality products to China via Nantong.

Wu also introduced Nantong's sports industry, saying that the city owns the only team of Chinese Football Association Super League in Jiangsu and that he hopes to deepen people-to-people exchanges with Argentina through football.

Clement thanked Nantong for its support and assistance in deepening both sides' cooperation in various fields.

He said that Argentina hopes to make use of its resources, culture, and sports to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Nantong.
